My First Game at Wrigley Field
⚾ Chicago Cubs Fan | Year: 1987 | Stadium: Wrigley Field, Chicago IL
I was seven years old the first time my dad took me to Wrigley Field. It was a Tuesday afternoon in July 1987, and the Cubs were playing the Mets. I remember the smell of hot dogs and fresh-cut grass hitting me the moment we walked through the gates.
We sat in the bleachers, and I couldn't believe how green the field was — nothing like watching it on our old TV at home. My dad bought me a Cubs pennant and a bag of peanuts, and we sat there in the summer sun for nine innings, not caring one bit that the Cubs lost 4-2.
That day started a tradition. Every summer, no matter what, dad and I made it to at least one game at Wrigley. He passed away in 2019, but I still go every year — always the bleachers, always peanuts — and I swear I can still hear him cheering beside me.
